When asked by Clear Lake, Iowa’s Chamber of Commerce on where we would be interested in staying, my response was, “somewhere walking distance to the Surf Ballroom please.” I knew we were catching a show at the legendary concert venue and there would likely be a few drinks thrown back so I didn’t want to worry about driving or finding public transportation. Little did I know, we would be put up in an adorable Clear Lake rental where we felt right at home immediately.
Here’s why the 3rd and Surf is the perfect base for exploring the area!

Location
The 3rd and Surf rental is in the heart of downtown Clear Lake, only two blocks from the lake and one block from the legendary Surf Ballroom. It is walking distance to all the major attractions and things you’ll want to experience.

3rd and Surf Amenities
One of the benefits of renting that really stands out at 3rd and Surf are the amenities. To start, the rental has a full kitchen stocked with plates, cups, bowls, glasses, and silverware. It offers every major appliance such as an oven, microwave, and full-size fridge for those days you want to heat up leftovers or stay in and cook. A Keurig coffee maker with a few samples stands on the counter. I’ve noticed in the past not all HomeAway or Airbnb rentals include the basic items you’d hope to find on your day of arrival like toilet paper, soaps, and paper towels. But 3rd and Surf has it all!
And a washer and dryer are located in the laundry room. We really appreciated this one since we had been on our road trip from St. Louis to North Dakota for over a week when we checked in and it was time for some clean clothes.
The newly remodeled home is close enough to walk downtown but for your convenience, the owners also have two bikes parked in the garage for your use. This leads me to the parking. There’s plenty of room for multiple cars with the long driveway and garage.
The long line of amenities continues with the large backyard complete with a screened-in patio and outdoor firepit. Firewood is supplied in the garage.

Spacious Layout
The two-bedroom house has a whole lot of space! The back family room has a sofa sleeper and a big table with four chairs to play one of the many games provided by our wonderful hosts.
The living room at the front of the house has a small table for two, where I set up shop to work on the blog, and an additional couch and chair.
Comfortable Rooms
There are two bedrooms, one queen and one full, and a queen size sofa sleeper in the family room to comfortably sleep 6. There is one bathroom with a separate shower and bath. We only used the shower but it’s a great setup for a family trip. Another bonus as far as rentals, all linens are provided which is not always the case at cabins or cottages.
Lake Life Decor
And last but not least, we fell for the lake life and nautical décor that was abundant throughout the house. Everything from the exterior paint of the house to the bowls and even the bath towels, were accented with the color lake blue. We noticed the ambiance and signs like, “Life is better at the lake” hanging on the wall right away and it quickly had us ready for our Clear Lake adventure!
