The Road Trip Must-Have Essential Item

Even though it was July, you never would have known it by stepping outside. The clouds hung low, the air was cold and the wind was harsh. Nothing like the summer months we experience back home in Chicago. We had been on the road for over a month, just recently passing over the border from the states into Canada. Jasper National Park was a bucket list item for sure. I had seen pictures of the area and thought the people in them looked like they were standing in front of a backdrop. Its landscape appearing so surreal. We were at one of those incredible viewpoints. The weather was unwelcoming, but the landscape before us was not. After we scooped our jaws from the floor, we climbed back in the car. The sun was setting soon and it was time to head back to the campground. My husband turned the key once. Click. Twice. Click. Three times to no avail.

One of the worst things that can happen on a road trip is having your car break down. Some issues can be prevented or fixed if you have the right equipment. Previously, we used the Stanley Jump Starter for other reasons, but this was the first time I realized just how helpful it is to have on hand. We were in unfamiliar surroundings, had no cell service and had not seen anyone else in the area for awhile.

Within ten minutes of realizing our battery was dead, the car was purring like a kitten! Thanks to what we now consider our must-have road trip item.

Road Trip Essentials – The Item We Could Not Live Without

We have been on many road trips, all varying in length from three to eighty days. We always bring our useful car mount that fits in any vent and our super fast car charger. But after our long summer road trip, we decided there is one item we would rank as the most invaluable, the Stanley JC509 1000 Peak Amp Jump Starter with Compressor.

Why It Is a Must-Have Road Trip Item

The Stanley Jump Starter is a multi-use road trip gadget. Not only can it provide a jump, it has many other capabilities. The compressor can be used to inflate tires. We often use it to pump up our bicycle tires. And even used it to inflate our spare tire for the car when we got a flat. It’s regularly utilized as a power source to charge our cell phones and fan at night when truck camping. With no electric, it was super useful in Yellowstone. In a pop up camper, no electric would normally equate to no lights or running water. The portable jumpstart battery allowed us to run the LED lighting and the water pump for the sink. Another great feature is that it charges within fifteen to twenty minutes.

If you are hitting the road any time soon, we highly recommend the Stanley Jump Starter as one of your road trip gadgets!

Features of the Stanley Jump Starter

  • 500 Instant Starting Amps/ 1000 PEAK Battery Amps
  • Offers both 12-volt and USB outlets to charge personal electronics
  • High-powered LED light that rotates 270 degrees
  • 120 PSI Compressor with Backlight Gauge
  • Reverse polarity alarm to alert when there is an improper connection

  1. It’s bad enough when your car breaks down anyway, let alone on a road trip! Really useful info, may have to pick one up, thanks!

  2. Oh, yes, I guess that would be pretty important, huh? I didn’t have one of these on my recent road trip through Utah. I guess I can count my lucky stars I didn’t break down. Some of those Utah roads were a long way from civilization!

  3. I never would have thought of this… genius 🙂

  4. Innovations like these are so fantastic. What a great product for a road trip!

  5. Sounds like an amazing piece of kit, we would definitely consider getting one of these for when we ever do a road trip!

  6. Yes, definitely a solid tip for traveling. Great that it has multiple uses. Bring a tool kit too, you never know.

  7. Ah yes I agree with you on this. With that thing you’d literally be able to go anywhere and still have piece of mind (we as long as you had a jerry can of fuel as well) 😉

  8. We are doing a road trip all over that area of Canada next summer. We will have to just pay the extra cover on the car rental! Or just carry some jumper cables! Least you broke down somewhere with a view!

  9. It’s funny you mentioned this around Jasper, the exact same thing happened to us when we were there. And we had a brand spanking new truck! The Stanley Jump Starter would have been priceless! We had AAA but the starter would have been almost instantaneous rather than wait 2 hours for a truck to arrive.

  10. I never would have thought to have included this on a roadtrip but it’s a great suggestion!

  11. I totally get this. As someone who has driven over most of Europe and a lot of Australia, car (or motorhome) breakdowns are the last thing we ever want. We have a lot of “must haves” with us but this is also a great idea.

  12. LOVE a good road trip, this would have been super helpful in the past haha.

  13. This is great, because then you don’t have the awkward moment of having to flag people down to help jump your car. Great idea, and it looks compact too!

  14. Sometimes we take things for granted until we needed them. Useful stuff. I believe every car should have one really.

  15. These are such great tips to keep in mind when going on a road trip! Thank you for sharing 🙂
