The Road to Recovery: My New Favorite Shoes (Plantar Fasciitis Be Gone)

posted in: Shop, Travel, Travel Tips | 6

Since hiking 500 miles on the El Camino de Santiago, I have struggled with constant pain in my feet from plantar fasciitis. Prior to experiencing this wicked pain, I had no idea what plantar fasciitis even was.

Over the last few months though, I’ve found out that it is quite common and many people of all ages encounter it.

Are you tired of dealing with foot pain? These Plantar Fasciitis shoes are now my go-to travel shoes for comfort and recovery.
The El Camino pilgrimage is about 85% hard surface walking which is why I think the plantar fasciitis began.

Like most people, the time I spend on my feet fluctuates based on where I am and what I am doing. I may hit 20,000 steps on hiking days or only 1,000 steps if I’m at home catching up on writing.

Unfortunately, I spent the last seven months either limping around trying to keep up on our travels or at home with my feet up. It has really put a damper on traveling – well everything really – because I have been in continuous pain with no signs of relief. And I think if my husband hears me say that my feet are killing me one more time, he may throw me out the door!

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is a disorder caused by inflammation of a thick band of tissue that runs from the heel bone of the foot to the toes. The plantar fascia supports the arch of the foot and once strained can cause tiny tears in the ligament. The tears lead to inflammation and a stabbing pain that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

It can occur in one foot or both feet and can affect anyone. Causes of plantar fasciitis include:

  • Foot shape. High arches or flat feet.
  • Repetitive action. Walking, standing, or running for long periods of time especially on hard surfaces. DING DING DING! This would be me!
  • Certain types of exercise. Ballet or aerobic dancing, long-distance running, and jumping activities.
  • Obesity. Excess pounds puts stress on your feet.

Plantar Fasciitis Treatment & The Search for Comfortable Travel Shoes

I tried everything: stretching, taping, a visit to the Podiatrist, inserts, anti-inflammatories, icing, and rest. I’ve taken every recommendation and tried each one. The only thing I did not do was buy new shoes. Every person recommended a different shoe and I didn’t want to spend more money before doing more research.

That was until I visited my in-laws for Christmas and tried on a pair of my aunt’s shoes. She struggles with foot pain from plantar fasciitis as well and she had nothing but fantastic things to say about her shoes.

The minute I took a few steps in her sandals, I knew I found the comfortable shoe I was looking for!

OOFOS – Feel the OO!

I could not contain my excitement when my OOmg Low Shoes came in the mail. I feel the OO alright, it feels like I’m walking on pillows!

OOFOS uses OOfoam impact absorption technology that absorbs 37% more shock with every step than traditional foam footwear. The top is lined with a 4-way stretch mesh that is soft and allows natural movement with no rubbing against the skin. Not only are the shoes super comfortable and lightweight, they cradle my high arches and relieve pressure on my heels.

Since we have mostly hardwood floors, I’ve been living in my new shoes. Hard surfaces are horrible for your feet and until I had issues I would walk around barefoot all the time. It is time for OOFOS to provide me with some relief and a chance to recover!

I now live in my OOFOS shoes!

OOFOS Sandals

I chose the OOmg Low Shoe originally because I typically wear closed toe shoes on our travels. But I am so enamored with my new shoes that within days, I placed another order for the OOriginal Thong Flip Flop for my upcoming trip to Florida. They are less expensive as the closed toe shoe but just as comfortable.

I’m on the slow road to recovery but I am thankful I found something that is giving me the most hope I’ve had in the last few months: OOFOS Footwear!

Are you looking for plantar fasciitis shoes or shoes to alleviate foot pain and soreness? If so, give OOFOS a try.

A good podiatrist should be able to eliminate your plantar with custom orthotics. As in, put them in your sneakers and the pain vanishes.

Thank you so much for this information! I am constantly looking for comfortable shoes that don’t look like they’re made for 90-year-olds!
